Extending the free license for Avast Antivirus is a very simple task that requires only a few clicks.
Avast Free Antivirus is one of the best security tools available. Sure, it has its quirks and unneeded components, but the single most confusing thing is updating the free license after your first year completes. Here’s how to continue using Avast Antivirus for free, forever (yearly registration still required).
A short video about renewing Avast Free Antivirus license for another year
Here’s a quick video tutorial on how to continue using Avast Free Antivirus. Although the latest version is 2020, the procedure has been the same for years now. More details are below the video.
How to extend Avast Free Antivirus license
Avast Antivirus will let you know when your free license is about to expire or is already expired.
The license expiry dialog offers to continue for free on the left.
Click the gray Select button to continue.
Here’s an example of what the Select your security level dialog looks like when your Avast license has expired.
But wait, there’s more – Avast is not letting you off the hook that easily. 😉
First, a discount offer appears. Close it unless you plan to upgrade to paid, enhanced protection by Avast.
To assure you that a paid version is even better, Avast then offers a free trial instead.
Choose it if you want to – you can downgrade to the free version after the 60-day period is over.
But to continue using the free version, close the second offer, too.
The second offer changes sometimes, so it could also be looking like the screenshot below.
And that’s it! You now have another year of Avast Free Antivirus.
Please do not forget to configure the most important settings of Avast Free Antivirus.
